Ex-Officer: Blocked Photos Showed Rape, Sexual Abuse at Abu Ghraib

The former Army officer in charge of investigating the Abu Graib scandal says the photos recently blocked by President Obama include images of rape and sexual abuse. In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Major General Antonio Taguba said at least one picture shows a US soldier raping a female prisoner while another shows a male translator raping a male prisoner. Taguba says other photographs show sexual assaults with objects including a truncheon, wire and a phosphorescent tube. The Obama administration recently drew criticism when it reversed a pledge to allow the photographs’ release.

El ex oficial del Ejército a cargo de la investigación del escándalo de Abu Ghraib dice que las fotografías que el Presidente Barack Obama recientemente decidió no publicar incluían imágenes de violaciones y abusos sexuales. En una entrevista con el Daily Telegraph, el Mayor General Antonio Taguba dijo que al menos una fotografía muestra a un soldado estadounidense violando a una prisionera y otra muestra a un traductor violando a un prisionero. Taguba dice que en otras fotografías se pueden ver abusos sexuales con objetos tales como porras, alambres y un tubo fosforescente. El gobierno de Obama recientemente fue criticado cuando se retractó de una promesa de permitir la publicación de dichas fotografías.
